IFA Berlin 2026 Puts AI and Robotics at the Centre of Consumer Tech

Humanoid robots and AI technology showcased at IFA Berlin 2026

IFA Berlin 2026 has opened in Germany with artificial intelligence and robotics taking a much larger role on the show floor, signalling how quickly intelligent machines are moving from research labs and industrial settings into consumer technology. The five-day event, running from September 4 to 8 at Messe Berlin, has brought together more than 1,900 brands showcasing products across consumer electronics, smart homes, mobility and emerging technologies. Robotics is one of the biggest themes this year, with humanoid and other autonomous machines appearing across the exhibition.

Humanoid robots take the spotlight

IFA's innovation section, IFA Next, has expanded its robotics presence this year, with around 300 exhibitors expected in the area. The organisers describe it as the biggest humanoid robot showcase in the history of IFA, with companies demonstrating machines designed for applications ranging from industry and logistics to everyday human interaction. The event is also putting robots directly in front of visitors rather than keeping them confined to product displays. On September 5, IFA is hosting “Robots on the Runway”, where humanoid, quadruped and companion robots will demonstrate movement, interaction and physical capabilities on a live stage. Participants include Unitree, Agibot, Dobot, Deep Robotics and several other robotics companies. Robot demonstrations elsewhere on the show floor include dancing humanoids, machines capable of interacting with visitors and robots designed for industrial tasks. Xiaomi's CyberOne, for example, is being demonstrated at IFA while the company continues testing humanoid robots for manufacturing applications.

AI moves into everyday devices

The robotics push is part of a wider change at IFA. Artificial intelligence is increasingly being built directly into consumer products, allowing devices to interpret their surroundings, respond to users and make decisions without requiring constant manual control. Home appliances are a particularly visible example. Robot vacuums are becoming more capable of recognising objects and adapting their cleaning behaviour, while manufacturers are experimenting with machines that can handle more complex household environments.

Dreame, for instance, is showcasing a robot vacuum that can detect liquid spills and switch its cleaning mode, while Roborock is demonstrating a lawn-mowing robot capable of mapping outdoor spaces and navigating obstacles. Other exhibitors are pushing AI into smart-home systems and connected devices. Midea is presenting its SMART MASTER ecosystem, built around AI-powered interaction between household devices, while other companies are showing AI-enabled wearables and connected consumer products.

From impressive demos to practical robots

The growing presence of robotics at IFA also raises a more practical question: how close are these machines to becoming genuinely useful in everyday life? Some of the technology on display is already being used outside the exhibition hall. Industrial and commercial robots can perform repetitive tasks, navigate facilities and operate in controlled environments. Household robots face a much harder challenge because homes are unpredictable, with different layouts, stairs, furniture, pets and objects constantly changing position. That is why robot vacuums and other specialised machines have generally advanced faster than the fully capable household humanoid robot. At IFA, manufacturers are increasingly showing robots designed to perform specific tasks rather than trying to create one machine that can do everything.

The same shift can be seen in physical AI, where software is being developed to help machines understand and respond to the physical world. IFA's programme includes dedicated discussions on building the ecosystem needed for physical AI, showing that the technology is becoming an important part of the industry's wider conversation. For visitors, that makes IFA 2026 less about a single breakthrough gadget and more about seeing how AI is spreading across different parts of consumer technology. From robots that move around factories to machines that clean homes, the show is offering a glimpse of a market where software intelligence and physical devices are increasingly being designed together.
