pSemi Launches Two UltraCMOS+ Modules for 2.4 GHz IoT Devices
pSemi has introduced two UltraCMOS+ radio-frequency front-end modules designed to improve wireless connectivity in Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The PE566212 and PE566213 integrate key transmission and reception components into a compact package for products using Bluetooth, Zigbee and Thread.
The modules combine a power amplifier, a low-noise amplifier and an RF switch in a single silicon-on-insulator (SOI) design. This integration can simplify circuit design and reduce the number of external components required in connected products, including smart-home devices, wearables, wireless audio equipment and sensors.
Two Modules Target Different Connectivity Needs
Both modules operate across the 2.4 GHz frequency band, spanning 2,400 MHz to 2,483.5 MHz. They support transmit output power of up to +20 dBm and feature a typical receive noise figure of 1.8 dB, with a typical bypass-path loss of 0.8 dB.
The PE566212 is designed for Bluetooth Basic Rate and Bluetooth Low Energy, alongside Zigbee and Thread applications. It offers a 22.5 dB transmit gain-control range, adjustable in 1.5 dB steps.
The PE566213 adds support for Bluetooth Enhanced Data Rate (EDR), targeting applications where wireless throughput is important. It supports Bluetooth Basic Rate and Bluetooth Low Energy at up to +20 dBm, while EDR output reaches up to +11.5 dBm, according to the product specifications.
Compact Design for IoT Hardware
Each module measures 1.8 × 1.8 × 0.63 mm and uses a 14-lead land-grid-array package. The compact footprint is intended to help hardware designers integrate RF functionality into space-constrained circuit boards.
pSemi says the modules can provide five to ten times greater range than a standalone system-on-chip, although actual performance will depend on the device design and operating conditions. The integrated design is intended to help manufacturers develop connected products without assembling separate components for each RF function.
Availability
The PE566212 and PE566213, along with evaluation boards, are available from pSemi. The company is part of Murata and develops radio-frequency, analog and mixed-signal semiconductor solutions.
The launch expands pSemi’s RF front-end portfolio into IoT connectivity applications, with one module focused on robust Bluetooth, Zigbee and Thread links and the other adding support for higher-throughput Bluetooth EDR applications.
