Renesas Opens Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing to Accelerate Next-Generation Robots
Renesas Electronics has opened a new Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing, creating a dedicated facility for developing, testing and validating advanced robotic systems and physical AI technologies.
Renesas Electronics has officially opened its Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing, China, as the semiconductor company expands its focus on robotics and AI systems that can interact with the physical world. The facility is designed to help customers demonstrate, validate and jointly develop robotic solutions, taking projects from early concepts through engineering and eventual deployment.
The lab will bring together hardware, software, AI models, sensing, motion control, power management and system-level testing under one development environment. Renesas sees humanoid robotics as a major opportunity and currently estimates that its technologies can address around 30% of a humanoid robot's bill of materials, with an ambition to increase that coverage to 70% through its capabilities in control, sensing, power, AI and software.
The Beijing facility will also work with customers, technology partners, universities and startups as Renesas seeks to strengthen its presence in China's rapidly developing robotics ecosystem. The company established its dedicated Physical AI Division in July 2026, making the new lab another step in its strategy to expand its role in the emerging physical AI market.
