Info Edge CEO Transition: Hitesh Oberoi to Step Down After 27 Years
The Info Edge CEO transition will see co-founder Sanjeev Bikhchandani take over as executive vice chairman, managing director and group chief executive officer from December 3, 2026, subject to shareholder approval. Hitesh Oberoi, who has spent nearly 27 years at the company, will step down from his full-time operating role at the close of business on December 2.
Info Edge, the parent company of Naukri.com, announced the change after a board meeting on October 28. Oberoi will continue his association with the company as a non-executive, non-independent director from December 3, subject to shareholder approval. The company said he wants to devote more time to interests including higher education, entrepreneurship, investing and philanthropy, as well as his family.
Info Edge CEO Transition Takes Effect in December
Bikhchandani, who founded Info Edge and has served as its vice chairman, will assume the expanded responsibilities after the board approved his appointment. His term in the new roles is set to run until April 26, 2031, in line with his existing term as a director, subject to the required shareholder approval.
Oberoi has served as managing director and CEO for more than 16 years, following his earlier work in the company’s leadership. In its announcement, the board acknowledged his contribution to the development of Info Edge’s businesses and leadership team over nearly three decades. Oberoi said he had considered the decision carefully and believed the company had built a stronger institution with leaders ready to take on greater responsibility.
Naukri.com Parent Operates a Portfolio of Internet Businesses
Info Edge’s businesses span recruitment, property listings, matrimony and education. Its portfolio includes Naukri.com, 99acres, Jeevansathi and Shiksha, alongside other ventures. The company has also invested in India’s startup ecosystem using capital generated by its operating businesses.
The leadership change comes as the group continues to develop its different businesses. Oberoi highlighted Naukri’s AI and data strategy, 99acres’ market position, the profitability of Jeevansathi and Aisle, and monetisation progress at Jobhai in explaining the work he wanted to see through before stepping back. These points reflect the outgoing CEO’s assessment of the businesses, rather than independent measures of future performance.
Bikhchandani to Lead the Company’s Next Phase
Info Edge chairman Kapil Kapoor said the company was prepared for the transition and credited Oberoi with helping build its leadership team and guiding the business through changing market conditions. Bikhchandani said the two had worked together for more than 27 years and described Oberoi as a key partner in building the company.
The Info Edge CEO transition places the founder back in an expanded executive role while retaining Oberoi’s experience on the board, if shareholders approve the proposed arrangements. The change is a significant shift at the parent of Naukri.com, but the company’s immediate focus remains on continuity across its recruitment, property, matrimony and education businesses.
