Rocket Lab Completes 16th Electron Launch of 2026
Rocket Lab successfully launched its Electron rocket for the 16th time in 2026 on September 11, deploying a single Earth-observation satellite into a 500-kilometre circular low-Earth orbit. The mission, named “Happily Ever Faster,” lifted off from Launch Complex 1 in Mahia, New Zealand, at 3:28 p.m. NZST.
The launch was conducted for a confidential customer and brings Electron’s total number of missions to 95. Rocket Lab has another Electron launch planned before the end of September for a commercial constellation operator.
Electron Maintains High Launch Cadence
The latest mission follows Rocket Lab’s 15th Electron launch of the year on September 3, when the company deployed Synspective’s StriX satellite into a 575-kilometre low-Earth orbit. That mission was Electron’s 94th overall launch.
The short gap between the two missions shows how frequently Rocket Lab is now flying Electron. The company has increasingly focused on providing dedicated launches for satellite operators that need specific orbital destinations rather than waiting for space on larger rideshare missions.
Earth Observation Satellite Reaches 500 km Orbit
The “Happily Ever Faster” mission carried one Earth-observation satellite and targeted a 500-kilometre orbit with a 36-degree inclination. Rocket Lab confirmed that the spacecraft was successfully deployed using its Motorized Lightband separation system.
The company has not identified the customer or disclosed details about the satellite. Rocket Lab says Electron’s dedicated-launch model provides satellite operators with greater control over launch timing and orbital placement.
Rocket Lab Targets More Missions
Rocket Lab's launch schedule remains active after the latest flight, with another Electron mission expected before the end of September. The company is also developing its larger Neutron rocket for medium-lift missions while continuing to expand its space-systems business.
For Electron, the immediate focus remains launch frequency and reliability. Reaching 16 missions in a single year gives Rocket Lab another operational milestone as it competes for commercial, government and constellation launch contracts.
The latest flight also reinforces Electron’s role as one of the most frequently flown small orbital rockets. With another mission already planned this month, Rocket Lab is continuing to push its launch cadence rather than treating the 16th flight as an endpoint.
