Stephen Fasham Appointed Captec Group CEO
Stephen Fasham has been appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of Captec, succeeding founder Max Toti as the UK technology group prepares for its next phase of international growth. Toti will remain on the board as a non-executive director, continuing to support the business after 41 years at its helm.
The leadership change follows Captec’s acquisition of a majority stake in Spectra, a German specialist in industrial computers. The move expands the group’s reach in industrial computing and automation, while adding to its portfolio of engineering and systems integration services.
Stephen Fasham Takes Charge of Captec Group
Fasham joins Captec after serving as chief executive of Covelya Group, an international underwater technology business. He helped establish Covelya as its chief operating officer before becoming CEO in 2021. During his tenure, the company expanded its manufacturing presence across the UK, Denmark and Canada and nearly tripled its revenue before being acquired by Kraken Robotics in 2026.
An engineer by training, Fasham studied at the University of Cambridge. His career has included engineering, product development and senior commercial roles across telecommunications, aerospace, subsea technology and defence. For Captec, Stephen Fasham brings experience in growing businesses, building leadership teams and integrating acquisitions. The group said that background would support its next stage of development.
Spectra Acquisition Broadens Captec’s Industrial Technology Business
Captec’s majority investment in Spectra is a key part of the group’s expansion strategy. Spectra will continue to operate under its own name and retain its established management. The acquisition adds German industrial computing expertise to Captec’s existing operations and extends its product range.
Through Spectra, the group has also established a global strategic partnership with Taiwanese rugged-computing manufacturer Cincoze. The partnership gives the businesses access to complementary computing platforms and extends their geographic reach across the UK, North America, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Taiwan.
Captec and Spectra are targeting combined turnover of more than £100 million. The figure is a stated business target, rather than reported revenue already achieved by the combined group.
Founder Max Toti Moves to Non-Executive Role
Toti founded Captec as a one-person business in 1985 and developed it into an international supplier of specialised computers, integrated systems and related engineering services. Its customers operate in sectors including defence, energy, healthcare and transport.
As founder and a major shareholder, Toti will remain involved as a board member and company ambassador. Captec described the appointment as a planned succession, with the founder continuing to support the business while Fasham takes responsibility for its day-to-day leadership.
The transition places Stephen Fasham at the head of Captec as it integrates Spectra and pursues growth across industrial and defence-related markets.
