Honda to Showcase Avatar Robot and AI Safety Technology at CEATEC 2026
Honda Previews Robotics and AI at CEATEC 2026
Honda R&D has announced its technology lineup for CEATEC 2026, where it will demonstrate robotics and artificial intelligence systems aimed at expanding human capabilities. The event will take place at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, from October 13 to 16.
Under the booth concept “Honda Innovation Lab - Missing Piece,” Honda plans to explore how people and technology can work together to create new forms of mobility and assistance. The company's showcase will centre on its Honda Avatar Robot and a smartphone-based driver-assistance system powered by Honda's proprietary Cooperative Intelligence technology.
Avatar Robot Combines Remote Control With AI
The Honda Avatar Robot is designed to act as a remote extension of its operator, allowing people to perform physical tasks without being at the location themselves. Honda is combining a multi-fingered robotic hand with an AI support system that assists the operator during remote control.
At CEATEC, Honda will demonstrate the robotic hand performing tasks with motion assistance from the AI system. The company says the technology is being developed for potential applications including healthcare, facility maintenance, disaster response and space development, where physical access can be difficult or dangerous.
Human-Like Robotic Hand Targets Complex Tasks
The multi-fingered hand is designed to handle objects and operate tools intended for human use. Honda says the goal is to allow one robotic hand to perform a range of tasks in environments designed around people rather than requiring specialised machinery for every activity.
The combination with AI support is intended to reduce the physical and operational constraints faced by a remote human operator. Rather than making the robot fully autonomous, Honda's current demonstration focuses on cooperation between the person controlling the system and AI-assisted robotic movement.
Honda Also Demonstrates AI Driver Assistance
The robotics showcase will be accompanied by Honda's CI-powered driver-assistance smartphone application. The system combines a smartphone with an aftermarket camera mounted on a vehicle to detect nearby road users and uses Honda's Cooperative Intelligence (CI) to predict and assess potential risks.
Depending on the detected risk, the system can provide visual and audible warnings to drivers and riders. Honda is developing the technology for possible use with existing vehicles and motorcycles as well as future models, with the broader goal of reducing traffic collisions.
Robotics Becomes Part of Honda's Mobility Strategy
Honda's CEATEC showcase reflects a broader approach in which robotics is being developed alongside its mobility technologies. The Avatar Robot is not being presented simply as a standalone machine but as a way to allow people to overcome limitations related to distance, physical ability and access.
The company says future applications could include situations where sending a person directly to a location is difficult, while remote operation could allow specialised human skills to be used from elsewhere. The CEATEC demonstration will provide an early look at how Honda expects AI-assisted robotics and human operators to work together.
Honda's exhibits will be presented during CEATEC 2026, which is focused on technologies moving from research and innovation toward practical implementation.
