IndiaTech.Org Appoints Dhiraj Gyani as CEO to Lead Its Next Growth Phase

Dhiraj Gyani appointed CEO of IndiaTech.Org after serving as COO

IndiaTech.Org has appointed Dhiraj Gyani as its Chief Executive Officer, elevating him from the role of Chief Operating Officer to lead the technology industry association. Announced on October 9, 2026, the appointment comes as India’s technology sector navigates policy questions involving artificial intelligence, digital markets, data governance and the competitiveness of domestic startups.

Gyani succeeds Rameesh Kailasam, who stepped down after leading the organisation for eight years. His immediate priorities include strengthening IndiaTech.Org’s engagement with government, regulators, technology companies and investors.

From COO to CEO at IndiaTech.Org

Gyani joined IndiaTech.Org in June 2023 as Senior Director of Policy and Operations before becoming COO in July 2024. His elevation to CEO marks another step in his career within the organisation, where he has worked on policy advocacy, industry engagement and strategic initiatives.

IndiaTech.Org represents consumer internet companies, startups and investors, providing a platform for the technology industry to engage with policymakers on issues affecting the digital economy.

Experience Across Microsoft and GitHub

Gyani brings more than two decades of experience spanning public policy, regulatory affairs, marketing and business development. Before joining IndiaTech.Org, he spent over eight years at Microsoft and GitHub, including serving as GitHub’s Director of Government Affairs and Education Business.

His work involved engaging with government, academia and startups to support technology adoption and strengthen relationships between industry and public institutions. He has also held roles in industry associations and other sectors, giving him experience across different regulatory and commercial environments.

Policy Challenges Facing India's Technology Sector

Gyani takes over as India's technology industry faces a growing policy agenda. Issues such as AI governance, digital competition, taxation, access to capital and data regulation are increasingly important to companies seeking to expand in India and international markets.

Industry associations such as IndiaTech.Org work to communicate businesses’ concerns to policymakers and contribute to discussions on regulation and innovation. Gyani’s experience in government affairs and technology policy will be relevant to these efforts.

Continuing IndiaTech.Org's Industry Advocacy

The leadership transition follows Kailasam’s eight-year tenure, during which the organisation developed a unified platform for representing parts of India’s startup and technology ecosystem. Kailasam has said he remains available to mentor and guide the organisation when needed.

Under Gyani, IndiaTech.Org is expected to continue working with government departments, regulators, entrepreneurs and investors on policies affecting technology businesses. His appointment comes at a time when the balance between enabling innovation and establishing clear regulatory frameworks remains central to India's digital growth.
