OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-6 With Intelligent UI Across ChatGPT
OpenAI is rolling out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI across ChatGPT, expanding the new experience to Free and Go users from October 8 after beginning the rollout for paid plans a day earlier.
Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users receive GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go users receive GPT-6 Luna. The rollout is global, although Enterprise availability can depend on workspace administrator settings.
The update applies to the regular Chat experience. OpenAI says the models powering Work and Codex are not changing as part of this release.
Intelligent UI Turns Answers Into Interactive Experiences
The biggest change accompanying GPT-6 is Intelligent UI, which allows ChatGPT to combine text, visuals and interactive elements depending on what a user is trying to accomplish.
Responses can include charts, diagrams, tappable buttons and forms, while ChatGPT can also create usable tools such as calculators, bill splitters and simple games directly inside a conversation. The system decides when an interactive format is useful and can still provide a conventional text response when that is more appropriate.
The feature is designed to make information easier to explore rather than simply presenting a fixed answer. Users can interact with elements in the response and, in some cases, change inputs to see how the result changes.
GPT-6 Can Answer While It Continues Thinking
OpenAI is also changing how GPT-6 delivers responses. The model can begin answering while it continues to reason or use tools, allowing users to start reading before the complete response is finished.
OpenAI reports that GPT-6 Instant begins answering questions requiring web search 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant in its internal evaluation. The company says GPT-6 also makes better decisions about when to search and more reliably finds supporting information.
Intelligent UI is built around a library of native components and a compiler that can stream interface elements as the model generates them. This allows parts of an interactive response to appear progressively instead of waiting for the entire interface to be completed.
New AI Interface Changes How ChatGPT Works
The shift goes beyond introducing another language model. OpenAI is positioning Intelligent UI as a new way for ChatGPT to adapt its interface to individual tasks.
For example, a question that benefits from comparison could produce a structured interactive layout, while a learning request could generate an explorable diagram. A practical task could instead result in a small tool built specifically for the user's needs.
OpenAI says GPT-6 is being introduced to more than 1.2 billion people who use ChatGPT each week, making the interface change potentially broader than a conventional model upgrade.
Rollout Continues Across ChatGPT
The October 8 expansion means Free and Go users are now joining the GPT-6 rollout, while paid users began receiving the new Chat experience on October 7.
Intelligent UI currently works in ChatGPT's Chat tab and across reasoning levels from Instant through Extra High, with the exception of the Pro reasoning option powered by GPT-6 Astra, which does not support Intelligent UI. OpenAI says the feature is not currently available in Work or Voice.
The company plans to expand the range of interfaces GPT-6 can create as the system's design and interaction capabilities improve.
